Childe Hassam was an American artist and is considered one of the most important representatives of American Impressionism. Inspired by the French Impressionists, he developed his own style, capturing urban scenes, coastal landscapes, and the beauty of everyday life in the United States. He is particularly known for his iconic flag paintings, including The Avenue in the Rain, Allies Day, May 1917, and Flags, Fifth Avenue, which vividly reflect America's patriotic spirit. Hassam’s artworks were extraordinarily popular during his lifetime, and his patriotic paintings played a role in preparing the U.S. public for the country's entry into World War I.
