Thomas Girtin was a British artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries and is considered one of England’s most renowned landscape watercolorists. He revolutionized landscape painting by transforming watercolors from a mere sketching technique into an independent art form. Girtin influenced numerous artists, including William Turner, with whom he was friends in his youth and occasionally collaborated.
